Cesky Krumlov is one of the most picturesque towns in Europe. A fairytale city full of hidden gems, magical corners, lookout spots, as well as medieval taverns, pubs, and cafes.
It has a beautiful castle towering above the picturesque city center and due to its exceptionally well preserved medieval town core, Cesky Krumlov has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The town grew up around a Gothic castle, built on the cliffs above the Vltava by Bohemian nobles in the mid-13th century. Aristocratic occupants, including members of the house of Schwarzenberg, expanded the castle, incorporating Renaissance and Baroque elements in the succeeding centuries, and ultimately creating one of the largest castle complexes in central Europe. You will walk up the tower to indulge in the wonderful view of the medieval town and the surrounding countryside.
The town escaped the bombings in World War II, which is the reason why the old city is so well preserved. You will wander around the medieval streets and enjoy lunch in one of the local cafes.
