Downton Abbey and Cotswolds Highlights Day Trip

Experience the best of the Cotswolds and the town they filmed Downton Abbey.
Your guide will combine the best of the Cotswolds with the the main filming location for Downton Abbey – the village of Bampton. Here you will see Isobel Crawley’s house, the Downton Village Hospital and St Michael and All Angels Church. (Please note this does not include Highclere Castle as it is closed 10 months of the year).
In the Cotswolds you will see the most idyllic villages with the more famous Cotswold towns. This gives you a wonderful overview and experience of what the Cotswolds is all about.
Departing from your hotel in Oxford you’ll start the day by visiting the main film set of Downton Abbey – the village of Bampton.
Following here you will go to the stunning Windrush Valley. Then you will reach the beautiful village and ancient ruins of Minster Lovell. An incredibly atmospheric place to see and full of thatched cottages.
Your next stop is arguably the most famous Cotswolds town and regularly voted one of the prettiest villages in England; Bourton-on-the-Water, known as the ‘Venice of the Cotswolds’, a great place for a cream tea or to browse the local shops.
From here you will go to the picturesque village of Lower Slaughter, one of the prettiest villages in the Cotswolds. The latest Jane Austin movie was filmed here.
On then to the charming market town of Stow-on-the-Wold before one of the highlights of the tour – the hidden village of Great Tew.
