Evora Prehistoric Times Full-Day Tour

This tour will take you on a journey back to the prehistoric times of Évora, a city that got its first outlines in the Roman period in the 1st century! Although conquered from the Moors in the 12th century, the first vestiges of human presence in its territory go back from much earlier, to the prehistoric era, between the 6th and the 7th centuries B.C.
You will be visiting and learning all about its most important and outstanding megalithic monuments such as the “Almendres” cromlech, the biggest megalithic monument in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the oldest in the world, believe it or not, 2000 years older than the Britain Stonehenge; the “Almendres” menhir, of Neolithic origin and six thousand years old, a largely isolated menhir made of granite with three meters high, indicating the sunrise on the summer solstice; the “Zambujeiro” big tapir, built between the beginning of 4th and middle of 3rd millennium BC, with 6 meters high, probably the world’s tallest tapir.
