Manchester Cottonopolis Half Day Tour
Manchester is a city built on cotton, 90% of the world’s cotton trade used to come from this city in Victorian times, which gave Manchester the name Cottonopolis.
This tour shows off two fascinating locations: The Museum of Science and Industry has the best collection of cotton technology, and spins cotton every day. It’s the closest you can get to travelling back in time to the noise and chaos of the mill.
Then you will be taken by car a half hour drive away to Quarry Bank Mill. Now looked after by the National Trust, and set in 400 acres of beautiful Cheshire countryside, this location will bring your new cotton knowledge to life.
The tour begins at the Museum of Science and Industry to watch cotton making demonstrations and hear about how Manchester became the city of cotton. Then your guide will transfer you by car in thirty minutes to see Quarry Bank Mill, the industrial palaces where the cotton was produced.
