From la Ponte du hoc to the American Cemetery this is a very moving tour that will allow you to realize the extraordinary preparation of the allies to land on the Normandy coast.
La Pointe Du Hoc is a 90-foot cliff made famous by the rangers who climbed it with ropes and ladders within 20 minutes to reduce a German battery.
It is the only area in Normandy completely shattered by bombardments which gives you the best idea of the violent fights which took place there over 3 days and nights.
We’ll visit some of the bunkers (most were destroyed). Then, we’ll proceed to Omaha beach where the Americans landed on the 6th of June at 6:30am, suffering great casualties.
We’ll make a stop to imagine the most difficult mission of the American soldiers climbing the cliff where Germans where shooting.
The American cemetery half a mile away, was completed in 1956 and 9386 American war dead are there buried, including the missing and the unknown. The headstones against the immaculately maintained emerald green lawn convey an unforgettable feeling of peace.
