Ostuni & Matera Full-Day Tour
Departing from your hotel in the morning, we will take an amazing drive through the land of olive groves dating back 3,000 years. We will explore the oldest Masseria in Puglia, Masseria Brancati, located in Ostuni, the world-famous Città Bianca (White City). We will walk among ancient olive trees of different dimensions while listening to their history.
The Grande Vecchio, the oldest olive tree in Apulia – about 3000 years old, will stand right in front of your eyes!
We will stop for lunch at Francesca’s, located in Matera, the only town in the world where people can boast to be still living in the same houses of their ancestors of 9,000 years ago.Â
The Sassi’s are houses dug into the calcarenite rock itself, which is characteristic of Basilicata and Apulia, locally called “tufo” although it is not volcanic tuff or tufa. The streets in some parts of the Sassi often run on top of other houses. The ancient town grew up on one slope of the ravine created by a river that is now a small stream. The ravine is known locally as “la Gravina”.
