Orange, nicknamed the City of Princes, is a crossing point for the north, Spain, or Italy, in the heart of a rich agricultural region which makes it a prime location for the Romans.
The Pont du Gard is a Roman aqueduct with three levels probably built in the first half of the 1st century, it ensured the continuity of the Roman aqueduct who drove the water from Uzès to Nîmes. According to the latest research, it would have ceased to be used at the beginning of the sixth century.
Nîmes was an important outpost during the Roman Empire.
It is known for its well-preserved monuments, such as the Nîmes Arena, a two-story amphitheater built around AD 70, still in use for concerts and bullfights.
