Northern Rhône Valley Wine Tour
Discover wines from the vineyards around Lyon and let tourself be fascinated by the magical essence and flavours of this Valley.
On this tour you will discover the history of wine in this essential region and enjoy some great wine tastings with Syrah-based appellations (Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph) and Viognier-based appellations (Condrieu). Peacefully set between the Rhône river and the hills around, the vineyard gate is a unique place to enjoy a pleasant moment.
Everything around reminds you how much work it takes to grow the vines clinging to the hill and how useful are the stone walls dating back from the time of the changing era.
And what about the wines? The reds are full bodied and very elegant at the same time. With hints of black cherries, pepper and violets, the Côte-Rôtie are undoubtly able to age well for years and are really nice to drink in their youth. The whites are flavoury and mouth watering with their fruity notes of apricots and white peaches.
First visit it’s at the archeological site and museum of Saint Romain En Gal to introduce you to the wine industry during the Roman era. This includes a special wine tasting of « antique » style wine.
Then, a wine tasting in a winery, where it will be explain the French « AOC » label system which is based on soil, origin and grape variety. You will enjoy some of the greatest wines of the region made of Syrah (Saint-Joseph, Côte-Rôtie) and Viognier (Condrieu) grapes. Lunch will be in a restaurant where local dishes are served. You will try some flavorful wine and food pairings.
After lunche, you will visit of a second winery where you will see a cellar dating back to the 18th century and taste the wine of the estate.
